Boys RULE! (Literally)

18 Jan

“Snakes, snails and puppy dog tails

That’s what little boys are made of…”

Let’s add worms, frogs, mud, spiders, scabs, boogers, swords, fire, and any other dangerous or gross object out there.

Testosterone swirls through my house like a hormone induced tornado.  There’s wrestling and punching, sword fights and Nerf wars.  We have more bug catchers than I can count and they house a varied number of species on any given day.

My toilet seats never down and my hair is always up.

I’ve considered replacing our couch with a full sized trampoline since that’s what they use it for anyway. We camp, hike, skateboard, play soccer and anything else that will tire them out.  They know the Rocky Theme song by heart and can somehow always manage to fit the word “poop” into any sentence.

I don’t go anywhere without hand sanitizer and band aids, and I’ve considered just leaving their bike helmets on permanently.

Who knew a tissue could be turned into a weapon?

Yes, there is never a dull moment when raising boys, but my absolute favorite task is the laundry.  After spraying the grass stains, dirt stains, blood stains, and snot stains, I finally check the pockets.  I have rescued many things from the old wash cycle:  Marbles, flowers, leaves, sand, tiny toys, jewelry, I found a battery once, but I think the worst treasure I will forever remember pulling out of my son’s pocket would have to be…

A worm.

Can anyone relate?

Ha ha! This cracked me up! I can totally relate!! Although, in my house we have mostly estrogen running around, we have some of the same things. It has been fun and sad to see how they go from collecting bugs and toys to collecting Facebook friends and ipod songs. You are right that kids love to make jokes about poop or any other gross bodily function, and they think that farting is the funniest thing ever! Kayden picks her boogers and wipes them on the wall. I am not sure if I should be really annoyed about that, or just glad she is not snacking on them. Although, we do not know the Rocky song, all of us can recite all three Toy Story movies by heart! I wish I loved to do laundry since I do 13-16 loads a week! I am not good at rescuing things though, as I have washed lots of candy, money, head phones, notes, little toys, receipts, DCS games and 2 ipods. You think by now I would learn to check pockets!! I too, have a purse that is the size of a suitcase, full of, lotions, sanitizers, tissues, band-aids, diaper creams, “emergency” diapers, wipes, nail clippers, extra hair ponies, juice boxes, fruit snacks, and toys. Other than my wallet and glasses, the purse has nothing that is for me. Mind you, this does not include what I carry in my diaper bag. As gross as parenting can be, as much as I wish we had disposable clothes and towels, and as heavy as my purse is, I daily remind myself that one day I will want to break by back with all those bags, clean dirty diapers, pick noses, wash all those stains, and hear all those potty jokes. It is going by so fast!!

Well said Amber. Even though my house is full of boys and rough house, I have heard that girls are much harder. Boys seem to be more straight forward with their feelings, hence the punching.
      Poor Preston.

You are so right…poor Preston! He seems to get the grunt of the girls emotions!! They have this sisterly bond and gang up on him when they are moody or just need to name call or hit someone!! Sweet heart takes it like a trooper!!

This was awesome. I want to print it out and post it on my fridge to remind me of the joys of being a mommy of boys. (as if I am not reminded of this every second of every day.) May I anyway? Tonight I as I pulled my wallet out of my purse to pay for my hair cut, I found a ball, a matchbox car, a banana, and a ziplock full of apple slices with little bite marks and nothing but the skins left, hand sanitizer…. The apple skins made me smile – it’s always gross to find old food in ziplocks in a purse, but I smiled anyway because those little bit up skins reminded me of what I am. Privileged to be a mommy. Now that I’m thinking of it, I better go get the old food out of my purse…

That’s so true! I forgot to mention the treasures that wind up in the bottom of my purse. But I think that would be a whole new post. The apple skins made me smile too…I can definitely relate. Thanks for the mental picture and your wonderful comment.

Oh G, this cracked me up. How eloquently stated! I have a girl, however, she is a tomboy with endless energy and an affinity for the outdoors, so I can relate to the bugs, mud, rocks, sticks, pinecones, sand and anything else that should remain outside that ends up in the house! 🙂

Hey Brandie, thanks for checking out my blog and thanks for commenting, I love to hear what other people think and that we all have similar experiences. It makes this motherhood thing so much easier.
